East India can be called as a fortunate region that has seen major developments of a wide array of artistic cultures.

It is said that East India breathes and eats art in various forms.

Patta Chitra is one of the famous art forms which was evolved and worked around in Orissa.

This art basically evolved the culture of presenting the communication that was present on the palm leaves.

In olden days where there were no paper, communication and messages used to be written on palm leaves and send to the near and dear ones.

Slowly, the text on the leaves began to be converted into unique creative illustrations which caught up as an art form that evolved in East India.

Have you heard about the Mythological themes? They, mainly depict the scenes from the major Hindu epics such as Ramayan and Mahabharat.

The Gods and Godesses like Ganesha, Krishna, Saraswati and Radha too get their image and credibility in these unique artistic forms.

Patta paintings had evolved in West Bengal. They are extremely unique wherein paper sheets are sewn and then painted.

They paint upon all the mythological and cultural art forms on these scrolls and also change their topics based on the needs and wants of their customers.

Nowadays, in recent times they have focused their attention to paint various historical events, ecological and geographic issues such as earthquakes and floods and also present various social problems.

In olden days these paintings were done on cloth but as said now they have started using handmade papers to execute their work.

The scrolls on which they paint are in most cases unmounted.
